DownloadTest your student's current knowledge level on the below screeners. This is the same screener that we will use to assess acceptance into our program. You can administer this assessment several times to gauge growth. The baseline of mastery for both assessments are listed below; both of these goals are listed at the end of both assessments as well.
ELA: The child has solidly mastered all the letters and the most common sound of each letter and can identify all the letters as either uppercase or lowercase, but the child cannot yet read any words or cannot read words like TENT, CRY, NEED, WAS, SAY, WISH, CHIN, and THAT.
Math: There are 40 points possible for this test. If the score is 32 or more, the child is ready to begin Simply Good and Beautiful Math K. If the score is 31 or less, it is recommended to review the concepts the child has not yet mastered before beginning the course. Although it is encouraged that the child have these important concepts mastered, Simply Good and Beautiful Math K reviews all the concepts assessed in this placement test
The Good and The Beautiful App has many videos and resources that both students and parents can learn from. Watching and practicing these videos will help push mastery further.
When teaching letter sounds, it's important not to add the "uh" sound, like saying "buh" for "B." Instead, use the pure sound, like just "b." Adding extra sounds can make it harder for children to blend sounds together when reading and spelling. By focusing on the correct, distinct sounds of each letter, you help them build a strong foundation for decoding words, which is crucial for their overall literacy development. This will make learning to read and write much easier in the long run.
